BIOGRAPHY

Arkestra One is Matthew Timoney aged 27 (in 2001). Matthew is currently a registered nurse working in anaesthetics and surgery. He was born in Finland but has been living in London since he was young.

Matthew became a space cadet in July 2000 when I received his demo CD that stood out of the rest. What struck me the most was the choice of sounds carefully selected to blend together and to create a special ambience. Now he is a member of CS collective and he became Cosmic Sounds COSMONAUT with the launch of his debut album in April 2002. Arkestra One album is the most successful CS release so far. The whole album has been licensed by ESL for USA and also some individual tracks were licensed for several compilations on Compost, Universal (Germany), Ministry Of Sounds (Germany), Hed Kandi etc. It was also the most favourite choice for many of the CS Remixers.

SOUNDS Influences:

Matthew has been buying, listening and collecting music for the last 10 years and has been influenced by everything from Syd Barrett psychedelia through to funk, easy, exotica and of course jazz. He's into record collecting big time (and there are so many to get!) Current favourites include obscure 70's library soundtrack artists such as Alan Tew/Hawkshaw, Vincent Gemiani, Morricone and Umiliani through to the funkier/mellower harmonic side of 60's/70's jazz, think Dave Pike, George Duke, Quincy Jones, Novi Singers (and to many to mention). Contemporary influences include DJ Shadow, Air, Jazzanova, Giles Peterson and the Cosmic Sounds collective. Mix these influences with a summery latin/bossa Brazil sound and you're getting close to the sound that is Arkestra One! All in all it's a very laid back affair.
Instruments played: Keyboards:- Electric piano, Korg ms20 (analogue heaven Thanks Andy!) , Vinyl extraction + sample manipulation, breaks, loops + obscure beats.
